Wireless RS-485 & RS-422 High Speed Transceivers
Remote your RS-485 or RS-422 device
WILDR-MIU provides wireless RS-485 / RS-422 interface ports for
applications that require wireless connectivity. This interface is
capable of speeds ranging from 4.8 to 115.2 kbps. Maximum RF output power is 20.8 dBm which translates to a range of about 250' indoors (depending on building construction and material composition), and 1-mile outdoors. FCC certified. As shown in the figure
below, the RS-485/RS422 is a [3-position RS-485, 5-position RS-422] screw-down terminal block connector. Click on the link for a short overview of serial Multidrop bus protocol Figure.
A
laptop or a PC running a serial communication program such as Microsoft Windows® Hyperterminal® or RealTerm is connected to the console port via a serial cable,
or a DB-9 to USB cable (provided) for initial radio configuration. The
Console port is used to configure the wireless radio parameters such as
frequency channel, data rate, and interface. There are a variety of
tools built-in the firmware to assist in configuring the radio in the
field. These tools can be used to measure RF channel noise so the
installer can select a clean channel. Also, the radio can be put in test
mode where a constant carrier, or a modulated carrier is transmitted
continually to facilitate range-finding.
Each data packet is encrypted using a random key per packet. Keys are
not transmitted in the payload, therefore capturing the packet by a
third party is not a security risk. For added security, there is also a
three-character code selected by the user that makes the encryption
specific to the site. All standard keyboard characters are allowed with
the exception of function keys. This feature does not allow radios from
other sites to function in your site.
The radio is supplied with complete documentation including a
quick-start, and a user reference manual. For more information and
the radio RF characteristics, please see the
Resources tab.
